Sea Shanties – Ricky Tart

Four groups of fifteen worked with Ricky over a two-hour period to explore the history around them and the idea of coming home from spending time at sea.

They wrote lists about the things they liked about Gosport and turned them into Found Poetry, using a simple thing as a list or set of instructions to create a poem. They then thought about all the things they might miss and as a group started to use the inspiration to create their Sea Shanty.

These were recorded and presented as an iPad book, which was on display in the Pilot Project exhibition.

Ricky Tart is a poet, vocalist, and filmmaker living along the South Coast. He has worked on projects with Hampshire Cultural Trust such as the ICE Project, The Mary Rose Museum and is currently working on his own project for which he has been awarded funding from the Arts Council to develop and produce.
