3D Art – Rhiannon Newman-Brown – Brent Geese

Year 9 Students from Brune Park School got up close and personal with Brent Geese who winter here in Gosport each year. Led by Rhiannon, with help of a Birds Aware Solent ranger and volunteers from Yellow Edge Gallery, they’ve created beautiful storyboards and 3D images inspired by their interactions with these magnificent birds.

Brent Geese have been identified as a priority species for the Portsmouth Harbour Special Protection Area and Ramsar site, the area supports around 10% to 13% of the world’s population and around 30% of the UK population. Brent Geese are a species of international importance protected under European legislation and are considered vulnerable due to the relatively small world population.

A Bird Aware Solent Ranger came to talk to the children about the birds and their migration patterns and flying routes. This led to the children thinking about their journeys and what they might look like as shapes, creating their storyboards. They also continued on by making their own paper geese to hang in the exhibition.
