From Way Up Here – Friday 4 July 2025

Back for a second year, we will start working with two primary schools from March, to devise and develop the Gosport Giant Sing – From Way Up Here.

Holbrook and Bedenham alongside St John’s CE Primary will write their own songs inspired by the heritage and stories of Gosport. Four classes will work with Hazel Gould (lyricist) and Judith Beton (composer) over a series of four workshops to explore ideas through text and music.

Taking inspiration from a series of postcards issued by Hampshire Cultural Trust, From Way Up Here follows the journey of the Brent Geese as they travel along the Alver River on their migration route, discovering the Betty White’s coat, Elvis the Eel, the Ferrymen and many more along the way.

Two performances of the piece along with a live band and narration will take place on Friday 4 July at Fort Brockhurst which schools will be invited to attend. They will also be able to join in the singing as all resources and songs will be shared with them, to learn prior to the day as attendees sing along from the audience.
